  • The hare is most commonly found in Europe and North America
  • Hares have short bushy tails, long hind legs, and long ears.
  • Depending on the species, the body is about 40–70 cm (16–28 inches) long
  • They are usually grey-brown throughout the year, hares living in northern latitudes may turn white in winter
  • Hares are generally larger than rabbits, with longer ears, and have black markings on their fur
  • The ears of hares are quite large and well suited to efficiently capture and locate sounds
  • Their field of vision includes a complete 360-degree circle. This gives them a better chance of spotting approaching predators
  • Hares have fur on the soles of their feet, which gives them added traction when running
  • They are known for their high rates of reproduction, and many species produce many large litters per year
  • The hare mainly eats plant matter, but also eat seeds, vegetables and fruit
  • The hare is able to move at speeds of around 70 km/t  (43mph)
  • All hares live in simple nests above the ground
