Påfugl (640x441)

  • Peafowls are large, colourful pheasants (typically blue and green) known for their iridescent tails.
  • There are three familiar peacock species. The two Asiatic species are the blue peafowl and the green peafowl. The one African species is the Congo Peafowl
  • The term peacock is properly reserved for the male; the female is known as a peahen, and the immature offspring is sometimes called peachick.
  • The male has 150-cm (60-inch) train of tail feathers that are coloured a brilliant metallic green. Each feather is tipped with iridescent eyespots with markings of blue, gold, red, and other hues
  • Occasionally, peafowl appears with white plumage
  • In the wild, both species live in open lowland forests, flocking by day and roosting high in trees at night
  • Peafowls nest on the ground
  • Peafowls are ground-feeders that eat insects, plants, and small creatures.
  • Wild peafowl looks for their food, scratching around in leaf litter either early in the morning or at dusk.
